U.S. RACEHORSE SPEED RECORD.
NEW YORK, July 16.— Tiie world's record for one mile three furlongs' (2mm 16 4-ssec), made at Liverpool, m 1908, by Mr. J. B. Joel's horse Dean Swift, was beaten at Belmont Park by Man-o'-war, Mt. Samuel D. Riddle's racing marvel, who covered the distance m 2 fnin 14 l-ssec. Justf before the race Mr. R : ddle refused an offer of £52.000, declariiiflr that no' amount of money could buy the horse, which he intends to retire after next, season."
