The confere/ee unanimously recommended the creation of an Imperial Forestry •Bureau\to collect, co-ordinate, and disseminate information, members of the bureau' to. be appointed by the Imperial, Indrawn, arid , Dominions' Governments, the cos/b to be ten thousand pounds vearly>. apportioned one-fourth each Britain, India, the Dominions and cploniea. Bri? tain" is asked to contribute £5000 immediately to- cover the preliminary expenditure. Mr. Lanepoole proposed the establishment «f v an Imperial Foreatry . Association, ...on the model of .the Australian" F<p*^try League. TlnY was agreed to. Mr. Edward Lucas proposed the gratuitous distribution of ..forest plants throughout the Empire, similar to the South Australian system. Mr. Lanepoole opposed the proposal, ■ declaring that West Australian experience was that the recipients sold free plants, and the CTovernmenfc therefore was compelled to charge cosY price. Mr. Macfcay stated Victoria' and New South Wales had a similar experience. Mr? • Hunter favored gratuitous distribution, although Queensland heretofore" had found it unnecessary. The conference 1 ultimately resolved to recommend the distribution^ leaving it optional' with each Government -whether it should be gratuitous or at- cost price. A Mr. Mackv. interviewed, enthusiastically ->aid tribute to Mr. Munro Ferguson for the success attending Ihis forestry experiments at Novar estates. Bosshire. Mi-. Levespn €»oker, Chief Commissioner of Forests, similarly paid " tribute to Mr. Ferguson as one of the most' patriotic pioneers of -the forestry ' industry m Britain.— A. and N.Z.O.A.
