Bowen suggested that applicatioi .should be made for the. vote of £3(K promised by the Hon. W.-Fi'ttße* for th< maintenance of the Wharerata-Morcrc road.— The acting-engineer said the ap plication had gone forward, the paymeni as promised having been overlooked.— li was decided to renew, the application foi maintenance grant pn the occasion of th< visit of the- Hon; J. .G;. Coates to Gis borne^— Cr. White urged that a. straight out request should be made for a vote "bl £2000 for the Mangapoike road as th( new main arterial road.— The chairinar suggested the opportunity would be the occasion of the Minister's visit to the district.— lt was agreed to ask for a grant of £500 for metalling "Matigapoike road. Discussing the request for grants it was agreed to ask for £100 for Awapxini Road. ...*'». Mr A. Parsons, county ranger, reported the impounding of 41 head last month! He also reported having met with a mishap and being thrown from his horse.— It was decided to call the attention of tho ranger to the stock on Muriwai road. Ranger Campbell reported the impounding of 18 head last month. Mr C. H. Ferris, sanitary inspector, reported that sanitary inspections were made during the, month- at Pafciitahi, Ngafcapa, Mariutuke, . Tev Araj^ Waerenga-a--hikd, Ormond, arid" Kaitara'tahi. The sanitary condition of these various localities visited, with tho exception of a few minor defects, ' Were satisfactory. These defects were remedied at the time of inspection. During the month he wits obliged to lay an information against a man for allowing a. dead horse to remain" m a creek supplying a water trough.' '■ The cleric reported that Mr Ferris was assisting Inspector Swn in m/ his duties m connection with influenza. Resolutions were passed authorising the raising of a loan of £3000 for continuing Mir> iiofcaiiinp of portions of the Hanp.i-roa-Tahora Road, also- a. loan of £1000 for metalling portions of lite WaingakeMangapoike Road.— The clerk said the Advances Board had sanctioned the latter loan. Mr H. M. Porter was appointed returning officer for Muriwni. Waingake, Waimnta, and Taruheru ridings. The report of the antinp-county engineer, Mr A. Fraser, (published m our last issue') was considered.' 1 It was agreod to proceed with the painting of the Matawhero bridge.
