Free, S.M., delivered reserved judgment m tbe case m which Wm, Linr dergren, hairdresser *of Dannevirke, was charged with bookmaking at the ' last Dannevirke races, and also with unlawfully trespassing on the club's course on the same occasion. Defendant was convicted on tbe same charges and flped £100 on the first and £g0 oh the second, with costs, OKRISTCHimOIL last night, • A promise that an endeavor would be made to have certain restrictions lifted so as to permit tbe export of potatoes to Australia, was made to-day to a deputation by Mr W.i G. McDonald, representing the Board of Trade. Mr MoDonald stated that he would reoommend the Minister of Customs to permit of the embargo on the export of potatoes being lifted for two months. Mr McDonald also made a promise that regarding the embargo on the importation of potatoes into the Commonwealth, he would make inquiries and representations with a view to the restrictions being lifted, if it were possible.
