COMPENSATION AWARD.
(Per Press Association.) AUCK-fcAJSD, this. day. The Arbitration Court, has forwarded to Auckland its judgment m the compensation case, David Remnant v. John Dempsey, coal merchant. The plaintiff waa incapacitated from work following an accident which happened to him m May, 1919, while he was m defendant's employ, but the matter was complicated because he was Buffering at the time from arterio sclerosis (progressive hardening of the arteries), which was bound to incapacitate him sooner or later. The question for the Court to decide was. whether he should be awarded a lump sum m respect of future incapacity m place of a weekly allowance, such as he had received since his accident. The Court decided that the probable period of incapacity from the accident was two years, and awarded the lump sum of £200 to cover that period, reserving the right to plaintiffs dependents to claim compensation should he die within that period, on the ground that his death was due to the effects of the accident.
