The Prime Minister wrote acknowledging the receipt of the Council's resolution urging a vigorous immigration policy, and stating that as soon as the shipping situation improved, a big step forward would be made.— The Chief Immigration officer wrote outlining the immigration policy of tho Government.— Received. The Department of Lands and Survey advised that £248 14s 9d, amount of thirds accrued to November 30, 1919, had been credited to the Council. — Received. The Navy League wrote asking the Council to appoint delegates to attend a meeting of those interested m the reviving of the Poverty Bay Navy League. — Cr. Parker was deputed to attend on behalf of the Council. The Raglan County Council forwarded a copy of a letter to be sent to the Prime Minister, asking for stringent amendment of the laws governing the ability of local bodies to enforce the payment of rates by natives. Tho Council's support for the letter was requested. — The chairman said the Council should support the resolution, seeing that m the past seven years the Council had struck £5386 native rates and had collected £3159. The natives should be placed on the same footing as Europeans. — Carried. The Napier Borough Council, Waiapu County Council, Patangata County Council, Hawke's Bay County Council, Waipukarau County Council, and the Hastings Borough Council notified their support of the Council's resolution re harnessing JVaikareifioana. — Received. The Auckland Railway League circularised the Council respecting a petition urging, the expenditure of more money on the 'railways. — Referred to the Development League. A letter was received asking the Council to appoint delegates to attend a meeting for the purpose of discussing the future of technical instruction m Gisborne. — The chairman was appointed to i represent the Council. The Ngatapa branch of the .New Zealand Farmers' Union wrote, asking the Council to enforco the clearing of timber From the bed of the Ngatapa creek.— Work proceeding. Messrs Marshall Bros, -wrote asking if the Council intended to enforce its resolution ordering Mr Newman to remove all gates across the road leading to the writers' homestead. — The chairman said he had requested that the resolution be given effect to. Messrs D. •J. Barry, Ltd., wrote asking for the lease of a section of 'l_ 'acres at Whangara for a period of 21 years with a right to remove the buildings. — The chairman said the reserve was on the new inland road, i He had looked into the matter, and Was assured by Cr. Murphy that the land would not be required; there being another reserve which would be utilised for travelling stock, -etc. — Lease pf property agreed to at a rental of £i; per annum. 4.c,was further agreed to lease an adjacent section of two acres on terms to be arranged by the chairman and Cr. Murphy. The Farmers' Union wrote requesting the opening of the stock track between Xgatapa and, the Kaitaratabi freezing works.— The chairman said he was inspecting the route with the acting-engineer, Mr Fraser. Money had been set aside m the estimates, last year for this road. The chairman reported, that Crs. White and himself had visited Auckland during the visit of the Prince of Wales, and had been generously entertained by the Auckland City Council. Tho Public Works Department requested the Council to prepare a list of grants required for tho current year. — The Council proceeded to review the proposed schedule.
