STATEMENT BY CHANCELLOR.

[STRONG FORCES TO BE EMPLOYED TO RESTORE LAW AND ORDER. (Australian and N.Z. Cable Association.) (Received May 21, 11.50 a.m.) LONDON, May 19. Replying to Lord Salisbury m the House of Lords, the Lord Chancellor em- 1 phatically declared that it was the policy of the Government, whether the struggle was short or long, to employ the whole of the available resources of Britain to restore law and order m Ireland and render the secessionary campaign now m progress utterly impossible. The forces of Britain were as deeply committed to carrying to a success the Government's purpose m Ireland as they were to carrying out the purpose m, the late war. If the troops now sent were insufficient more would be sent. The only limits would! be the extent and degree of the crisis. If the existing military formai tion was insufficient he would not hesijtate to ask the population of the country ito increase the forces as m a crisis of the war.
