PUBLIC SERVICE ASSOCIATION.

The monthly meeting of the Committee of the Gisborne branch, of the Public Service Association was held last night. Present : Messrs Carr, Goffe, Mead, Sinnett, Yenning, Westbrooke, and Wheeler (chairman). The Chairman apologised for his absence f roia the' last meeting, and con-« gratulated the .members upon the de> cision they arrived at rejecting the Temi> that all senior officers, who had put m 40 years of service should be dismissed to make room for younger men, regardless of the fact that these older officers had "not reached the retiring age, or .become less efficient than 1 the younger men. Messrs T. Hanna (Internal Affairs Department) and H. J. Lauglands (Sur- > r ey Department), returned' soldiers, ire re welcomed into the Association. Mr F. T. Venn ing, for office and private reasons, tendered his resignation as hon. secretary and treasurer. The resignation was accepted with, regret, and a .resolution was passed, thanking him for his arduous labors on behalf of the association for the last 'two years. Mr C. Mead' (of the Deeds Department) was elected as hon. secretary and treasurer. As Mr Venhing had been elected delegate for the oonference at Wellington, and cannot see his way now to attend, a special general meeting is to be called to elect another 'delegate. It was resolved to notify all members, so that the police and native school teachers m outlying districts might have an opportunity to send m their nominations for the conference delegate
