At the meeting yesterday. Messrs. L. C. Allen and H. J. Pea-cocke • waited on the Council as a deputation rcprcsentin;, r the ' To- Karaka Recreation Ground Committee, and explained that negotiations had been completed I'or the purchase of eight acres of land adjoining' the Council's property at Te 'Karaka, to which access could be obtained from the ba,ck road. The committee wished to know whether the Council would a".!ow them to put 1 a gate m. at the back of the Council yard, so that people on foot could, get access from the main road ov special occasions when sports meeting;-, were being held. — It was decided to favor the request, and Messrs. Dymock and Bridge, with the clerk and engineer, wore appointed to draw up an agreement and to arrange all details. The Engineer's report was read and considered. — On tlie motion of Cr. Bridge, the Engineer was' authorised to put m concrete culverts opposite the war memorial which is being erected by Mr. E. M. Hutchinson m Te Karaka, and to obtain permission from the Town Board to form concrete kerbing and channels, as Mr. Hutchinson (had generously offered to pay for the whole of this "work. The tender of Messrs. Curtis and Robinson was accepted, for forming 1_ miles of tlie Makaretu road, subject to the approval of the District Engineer being obtained. Mr. Peacocke's tender for repairing the Rangatira bridge was declined, being too high. The Engineer stated, m rep'.y to Cr. Williams, that he did not think the outcrops of stone, m the Wharekopae road would provide suitable metal for rroard r making. It was decided to hold the next meeting of the. Council on. Tuesday, September 9th, instead of on the usual date. A committee, -consisting of tlie Chairman and Crs. Fraser and Bridge, was set up to meet representatives of the Cook County Council to discuss various matters m connection with public health and nuisances and sanitation m relation to this and Cook and Uawa, Counties.
