CUNNING APPEAR FOR SYMPATHY.
(Australian ana N.Z, Cable Association) (Received Feb." 17; 9.10 a.m.) LONDON, Feb. 15. - A Berlin wireless i report states : — Scheidemann, interviewed 1 , said : The elections prove that Germany warmly supports the League of Nations. The result of an oppressive peace would be to spread Bolshevism in Europe. Germany would prefer world chaos to a painful sacrificial death. There are limits beyond which Germany will not go. It may be necessary to quit the Conference table, not in order to take up arms again because that would be impossible, but to throw responsibility on the enemy. " * Scheidemann painfully regretted Germany's position had been nowhere properly estimated. Nobody, he said, protests against the robbery of the German colonies after Germany had laid down arms, trusting in Wilson and world opinion.
