BIG GUNS IN ACTION
REHEAT OF THE GERMANS,
(Reuter's Telegram.) LONDON, Sept. 15. The news to-day from the American front is highly satislactory. Since yesterday they advanced two to three miles on the whole front of 33 miles. Patrols penetrated a further two miles. It appears that the Germans are retreating to the line protecting the railways, before Metz. Metz is under longrange guns. There were six enemy divisions operating m the St. Mihiel salient, of a total strength of 60.000, with a reflex strength of 36.000. Thei booty includes masses of material, over 100 guns of all calibres, and hundreds of machine-guns aaid trench mortars. ,; ■'■'.».' The • bridges m the re-conquered territory are undamaged. The line at noon ran — Norroy, Reinberconrt, Haumont, Doncourt, Aux Tem})liers, and Abancourt, thence to the old' inc. The Metz guns are m action.
