TRAINING THE SOLDIERS.
BIG REPATRIATION SCHEME. (Commonwealth Official Correspondent.) LONDON, June 20. A scheme, whereby the • Australian force abroad, during the period after the war ends and before transport, will, m respect of those available, be transformed into a great school for farmers, engineers, and every sort of learning and training, has been taken a step further by General Birdwood. He explained thnt a very great opportunity lay before them. Here was the flower of the country's manhood, the framework upon which the Australian nation was being built. During the war the education and training of some had been disturbed. They could not only repair this waste, but they could give those who had no definite profession or occupation a chance of rendering themselves fit for f one. The scheme would begin on a smaller scale while the war continued. It would develop when .the fighting stopped, and would continue thence to the time of landing m Australia, He asked all officers to give the fullest support m doing this great, big-hearted thing unconcerned with politics, sectarianism, or propaganda, and' purely designed to benefit the men and m the interests of the Australian nation. He gave special instructions that the senior officers must understand and make clear to all those under their charge that the scheme must *be devoted l to those objects simply and solely.
