A CLERK'S DEFALCATIONS.
STATEMENT BY COUNSEL. (Per Press Association). WELLINGTON, this day. In the Supreme Court to-day Martha! Hutchinson, clerk of the Woodvilla County Council, who had pleaded guilty to misappropriating £565, the property of that body, came up for sentence. Counsel said that she had hitherto borne a good character ; that she was a single woman and a few years ago gave birth to a child; that two men had threatened I to expose her and she gave them money to prevent exposure. One man was killed at the front, and the other died recently at Woodville. The case was remanded for further inquiries.
