GROUND GAINED BY COUNTER-
ATTACK
(Australian anil N.Z. Cable Association.) fßeuter's Telegram.) LONDON, April 25, 3.5 p.m. Sir Douglas Haig reports heavy fighting all night m and around Viilers Bretonneux. The fighting continues. We regained ground by counterattacks. The fighting on the whole of this front yesterday was most severe, and heavy casualties were inflicted on the enemy by our infantry and tanks. The enemy was. 'three times' repulsed northwards of the Villers-Bretonnenx-St. Quentin road. He used a- few tanks m this fighting. The enemy also late last night attacked the Fr«nch northward of Bailluel, but was repulsed. The enemy early this morning renewed his attacks m this sector and on the British positions further east after an intense bombardment. The fighting continues m this sector on a wide front.. The enemy at night time attempted a raid m the neighborhood of Beuchy, but was repulsed. Hostile artillery was active at night .tfime m the Festubert and Pobotno sec- / tors.
