ENEMY DESTROYERS SHELL THE

The Admiralty reports that last night several enemy destroyers opened fire m the direction of Ramsgate. Tlie fire was immediately returned aud the enemy was driven off, after they had fired a large number of rounds. Lord Frenoh states that one man and one -woman were killed, and one man and two women injured. Twenty-one dwellings and two stables were damaged. A large number of projectiles fell m open country.

The shrieking of shells awakened tlie people of Ramsgate at 1.5 m the morning, followed by scattered explosions. The attack came without warning. Heavy firing immediately followed. The attack lasted ten minutes. It is estimated that 60 shells fell, accompanied by a constant stream of star shells.

The enemy apparently was firing at random. The shells fell mostly on the higher part of the town. The damage was comparatively slight.
