GERMAN COASTAL RAID.
A FANTASTIC TRAVESTY OF
FACTS,
(Australian and N.Z. Cable Association.)
.Reuters Telegram.)
LONDON, February 28. A Berlin official message gives a fantastic account of the torpedo-boat raid. Tt states that the boats raided the channel beyond the Dover-Calais, line, and entered the mouth of the Thames. British destroyers stationed m the channel were scattered after a fierce artillery fight, and avoided further action by a hasty retreat. "We were unsuccessful m flictinjr loss on the enemy and no further damage wa.* observed here. Another section of pur torpedoers raided, not finding any guard, as far as the North Foreland into the Downs. It bombard-, ed the Coast defence works at Margate and vessels quite near the coast. No commercial traffic was observed."
Tt is hardly necessary to state that the account is ii travesty "of facts.
