THE TRENCH FRONT.
(Australian and N.Z. Cable Association.) (Received July 25, 11.25 a.m.) PARIS, July 24. A French communique states: The night was calm on the Somme front. The weather continues bad. Our reconnaissances northward of the Ainse penetrated the trenches at Vailly. Some prisoners, were taken. There were local actions at Chappellesteffe. Our total of prisoners m the past ten days was eight hundred. A German aeroplane bombed Luneville, wounding one. Lieut. Chiput downed his eighth German aeroplane at Fresnes-en-Woevre. Our aviators dropped eight bombs on the station of Couflans, forty on the barracks' at Vigneulles, and twenty-five on an aerodrome at Dieuze.
