COMPARATIVELY CALM NIGHT.
ENEMY COUNTER ATTACKS REPULSED WITH HEAVIEST LOSSKS. (Australian and N.Z. Cable Association.) (Received July 25, 11.25 a.m.) LONDON, July 24. Sir Douglas Haig reports: Apart from continuous shelling on both sides, a night comparatively calm followed yesterday's severe fighting. The enemy's repeated counter attacks between High road and Guillemont did not gain an advantage. Our artillery and machine guns inflicted the heaviest casualties. .We gained some ground near High road m the direction of Guillemont. Despite the enemy's stubborn defence we secured important advantages at Pozieres, a large portion of the village being m our hands.
