DRIVING THE ENEMY BACK. GENERAL SMUTS' SUCCESS. (Reuter's Telegram.) LONDON", July 23. The War Office reports that General Smuts on the 21st reports the enemy forces werte tendjelavoring to interfere with the communications m the West Tangai. They were driven southwards over the Pangini River. Muhetza arid Amani were occupied, giving effective possession of the whole Usambara railway, which we are preparing. r - A Belgian official report states that strong enemy forces were dislodged by th© British, on th© occupation of Bukoba *4»nd\ Karagwe. They found their retreat barred' m the south-west corner olf Victoria Nyapza. German Europeans were killed and captured, and a remnant fled m the direction of Mariahilf. The German commander was captured. We found the German steamers Mwanga and Otto Heinrich scuttled, and the Studlmann m sound condition. Quantities of arms and munitions and forty boxes of specie were captured. The scuttled vessels can be easily raised.
