SLACK DAYS REPORTED AFTER, ALLIES' SUCCESS. (Special to Herald.) • , / /^ AUCKLAND, this day ' During 24 hours since yesterday not a single volunteer has been accepted as fit at the central recruiting station. Three men visited. .the station .yesterday afternoon, two being dennitel'y rejected and one deferred, but no fresh volunteers disturbed tyis quiet of the building this morning." It .has been remarked m the past that ah'AHied reverse is a better recruiting agpht than an Allied success, and it has cer-fijgliilv ' seemed to be so during the last feHv Weeks. The present month bids fair .to be one cf ;the worst on record. In June as many as 20 men were often' accepted, and m May the figures were even better. ' This month', however, there were from four to seven on several days.
