In the course of his statement in the House of Commons, Mr Asquith said the transport difficulties in connection with the Mesopotamia campaign arose through the necessity for sending seven divisions pushed on in advance ot transport in the hope of effecting the relief of General Townsliend at..Kut v Sir Edward Carson said thousands of: people thought the whole Mesopotamian campaign was conducted with criminal negligence. The Unionist War Committee is dissatisfied with Mr Asquith's. attitude in regard to Mesopotamia and the Dardanelles and has requested Sir Edward Cai-son to more for a Select Committee to inquire into the conduct of operations in Gailipoli, and the Dardanelles, and Mesopotamia, including the requirements of the troops, and the provision for sick and wounded, and to fix the responsibility on the dependents whose duty it was ' to amend these matters. The Liberal War Committee cabled a motion in Mr Crawley's name calling foi* the production of the medical reports and other papers. v Mr Churchill, who has joined the latter committee, attended the meeting.
