TRADE AFTER THE WAR.
BRITISH COMMITTEE TO MAKE INQUIRIES. (Australian and N.Z. Cable Association.) LONDON, July 19. Mr Asquith has appointed a committee to consider Britain's after-war commercial and industrial policy M'ith special reference to the Economic Conference's recommendations. The committee is to inquire : — (1) As to what industries are essential for the future safety of the nation and the *teps necessary tb establish them; (2) WJbat steps are .necessary to recover the Koine and foreign trade lost by the war and secure new markets ; (3) To what extent and means the Empire's sources of supply can be prevented from falling into foreign control. The committee includes Lord Balfour of Burleigh (chairman), Messrs Arthur Balfour, M. Gosling,' Hewins, Sir A. Mond. Mr F. E. Smith, and Mr G. J. Wardle, M.P.'s, together with Lord Harrington's committee, which was appointed last month to consider how to meet the needs of British firms after the war regarding financial facilities for trade, particularly in reference to the financing of the large overseas contracts.
