So well concealed aiul protected was it that a bombardment failed to destroy the works. A German company held out Ifor twenty-four hours, and then, a sub -lieutenant and eight men found a vulnerable spot and entered tho fort unseen. Tlie officer and a man rushed forward, throwing grenades and shouting, "Charge bayonets." One hundred and thirteen Germans came out of their shelter without resisting.
