SHATTERED BY GREAT SHELLS.

GERMAN TRENCHES MELT LIKE EARTHWORKS. LONDON, July 18t Mr. Gibson, the Daily Chronicle's correspondent on the Russian front, describing the fighting at Grusiatyn on July 7, says: The German trenches, which were monuments of patience and labor, melted like mere earthworks nnder the great .Russian shells and many hundreds of men were buried twenty feet deep m their bomb-proof shelters.. Communication trenches were found' blocked with men afraid to retreat owing to the hail of shrapnel m their rear". These eagerly surrendered. Most of the enemy were killed during the shelling, the remnant surrendering when the Russian bombers and bayeneters poured into the first line of trenches, with the exception of a Honved Regiment, which fought magnificently till overwhelmed and destroyed. Grusiatyn' was taken with the bayonet and many of the enemy killed.
