MEAT-CARRYING STEAMERS.

Recently the Prune Minister has been m eomiiiuiiication with the Imperial authorities regarding tho provision of the additional steamers for tho month of May. To-day Mr Massey received the following telegram from tho High Commissioner : ''With reference to my telegram of April 12 on the subject of insulated tonnage, m consequence of the representations referred to, the Admiralty lias released two insulated steamers 'for the conveyance of Australian wheat, and it is fully expected that several Australian transports will be sent to New Zealand during May. Particulars will be telegraphed to the Tonnage Committee at Wellington from {Sydney. The Board of Trade requests that, m loading any such transports, you will give priority firstly to beef and secondly to mutton, as they are required for troops." Referring to this cablegram to-night, the Prime Minister _ explained, that the instruction as to- giving preference to beef and mutton m loading transports did not mean that cheese would not continue to receive favorable treatment m ordinary loading. .
