HIGH RENTS IN WELLINGTON.
(Special to Herald.) WELLINGTON, this day. Though reports from other centres show that houses ar© plentiful, while Auckland rents have actually boeui reduced, the Wellington Trades Council intends urging tho Government to establish a Fair Rents Court to niect landlords' exactions here. At a rentpayers' meeting particulars were given, showing a very largo number of increases, which many considered unwarranted. A small shopkeeper paying £2 weekly wna obliged to give up business upon tho landlord demanding £4. The rent oi' many small dwellings has been increased 35 per cent. Houses up to six rooms are very scarce. There are frequent advertisements offering premiums for information onabling an intending tenant to secure a dwelling. The Trudeß Cbuncil intends collecting more information, and- to "establish a Rentpayers' Association.
