Twenty-eight recruits who paraded at Barracks last evening, having' been ordered to go with the special reinforcements for Trentham, were tpld by the officer m command that as the quota had been filled they could not go with the force. The men had given up jobs and been farewelled by relatives, and the matter is .causing a good deal oi comment; The alleged blunder is due to headquarters m modifying tlie call for men.

E., Denton, who stepped from the ranks and said he had fought 'hard ' against military training/ but now that we wtae up against the intrigue of Germany and her system 61 conscription, all had to get out honorably, and he was now going to the front voluntarily;
