SUNK BY THE AUSTRALIA.
LONDON, Feb. 5. An officer of the Australia, m a. letter, states: "We sighted <i. steamer on the Brazilian coast on January 6, at a distance of twelve miles, and chased her for. five hours, when she surrendered. Her crew of 59 men were taken off, and two twelve-inch shells were fired into her- superstructure and two four-inchers below the water-line. The steamer sank in 25 minutes. Her cargo was worth a quarter of a million.
