HEAVY FIGHTING IN CARPATHIANS.

(Received February 6, 8.40 a.m.) PETROGRAD, Feb. 5. An official communique states that ■the Russians with bayonet charges at Borjimoff captured two lines of trenches. The Russians are progressing in the Carpathians and captured two thousand prisoners and ten mitrailleuses near Uszen. They withdrew from the Foukholka and Beskid passes to previously prepared positions, owing to the enemy's superior number. The enemy's attempts to" advance in Wyszkoff pass were repelled with heavv losses. (Received Feb. 6, 12.15 p.m.) PETROGRAD, Feb. 5. The Germans^ for two days and nights swept the Russian positions at Borjimoff with six hundred massed guns. Many shells emptied , suffocating gases, covering the trenches with a poisonous pall, but the Russians were splendidly dug in. and afterwards charged with 50 quickfirers with irresistible impetuosity, capturing 14 guns.
