FLOOD PREVENTION.
MR LAING ME ASON TO REPORT,
Recently the Poverty Bay River Board ■wrote to Mr Laing Meason, C.E.,, of Wellington, enquiring upon what terms he would furnish the Board with a flood protection scheme, and asking him to state the earliest date when he could make a visit to the district for that purpose.
A reply has been received from Mr Laing Meason, stating that he would visit tie district, make a close examination of the flood and other conditions of the river and its surroundings, fra^me a flood prevention scheme with full estimates of -cost, and report fully on the whole question for the fee of 80 guineas. It was to ,be understood that the Board •would provide conveyance for him from Gisborne to the various points which he should require to visit in th.e course of his investigations, aiid would furnish a man wvio, .knew the district to accompany him when required r all other travelling, and personal expenses to be borne by him. The Board was also to give him access (confidentially) to all plans, sections, levels and other information bearing on the subject, which the Board possessed: .V _ The Board has accepted Mr Laing Meason s oSW, and he will arrive almost immediately.
