•A draft Bill amending the Immigration Act has been prepared. It abolishes the residential license, and validates, de facto, monogamous marriages by registration. Provision is made for Indian priestsi to solemnise marriages.

There were disorderly scenes when General Smuts (Minister of, Finance and Defence) moved the closure m regard to the land tax proposals.

Messrs Creswell, Madeley, arid Boydell were ordered to withdraw from the House.

General Smuts' amendment deleting tho exemption was carried by 49 to 20.

An amendment limiting the operation of the measure for a year was carried by 58 to 17.
