BOARD OF AGRICULTURE.
ADVISORY BODY CONSTITUTED
THIS WEEK

WELLINGTON, this day. During this week the new Board of Agriculture will be formaly constituted, and according to the statute must hold its first meeting within one month. It is supposed to consist of 12 persons, but only 10 names will at first appear, the Government having to appoint one member and the Canterbury A. and P. Association to elect a representative m place of the late Mr D. D. Macfarlane, who died after his nomination. The Board therefore consists ,at present of Messrs J. G. Wilson (Bulls), president; J. C. N. Greigg (Canterbury), vicepresident) ; A. J. Allport (Nelson), E. Averill (Hawke's Bay), R. Dangle (Taranaki), E. Hall (Auckland), W. J). Hunt (Invercaigill), A. S. Orbdl (Otago), W. Perry (Masterton), and R. Reynolds (Cambridge). It has previously been made clear that the functions of the Board are purely advisory, but m that capacity the Minister of Agriculture, the Right Hon. W. F. Massey, /expects that it can be of great value to tho farming industry. It will commence work with a formidable agenda, tho Minister remarking to your correspondent that he hoped to refer to the vf\v body for its advice upon experimental farms, whether they/ should bo encouraged m preference to experimental plots, which m Mr Massey's opinion have been much more successful. They will be asked to assist farmers m coming together for purposes of co-operation, and m every wav help the Department to effectively do its work 'in assisting the man on the land to increase the country's productivity.
