ALLEGED ESPIONAGE. (Press Assn.—By Telegraph— Copyright.) (Received March 5. 8.30 a.m.) i LONDON, March 4. The Goulds, arrested for espionage, .have been remanded until March 11th. Mr Bodkin stated that a letter m Gould's letterbook to a correspondent m 1903 showed that his real name was Schneider. He fought m the FrancoGerman war. He had visited most parts of Europe as a member of the secret service for a foreign Power. Mr Bodkin remarked that Gould was a spy m Britain for many years. He told a former schoolfellow that he was an agent of the German Government. Letters m the. letterbook proved the payment of money, also a request for two hundred marks.

LONDON, Feb. 24. A married couple, Frederick! and Maud Gould, came before ! the Bowstreet Police Court, charged with having obtained and attempted to communicate certain information that was calculated to of use to ah enemy. The detectives by whom, the accused werearrested, gave evidence that they saw the female prisoner enter the Continental express at (Glaring Cross Station, just before the departure of the train for Dover. They took her into custody, and upon searching her effects found three large envelopes, underneath a rug. As- the woman was stepping out of the cab m which she had been driven to the police station, she was seen to throw some pieces of paper on to the pavement: The fragments were picked up,, and after they had been piece-d together the name of -Petersen could be deciphered. The envelopes contained documents relating to the navy. The male prisoner was arrested m a. house, and here also the .detectives discovered other documents referring to the naVy with some correspondence of an incriminating character. The -woman, when charged, said, "I don't understand the use of the papers; I have done nothing. I had no idea of the contents of the packages. I was going to take them to Ostehd, and then to Brussels. . I tore up the address." The male prisoner, m answer to the charge, said, "I'm the guilty party ; the woman, doesn't know what she went for.''
