SYDNEY MEAT STRIKE.

(Press Assn.—By Telegraph— Copyright.) SYDNEY, March 4. It is confidently believed m Ministerial circles that the end of the butchers' strike is m view. Messrs Holman and Estell further discussed the position with the employers to-day, putting before them a proposal slightly less favorable to the men. In the meanwliile, the employees have called a mass meeting for to-morrow morning m anticipation of a fresh offer from some of the retail butchers, who indicate a breaking away from the Al- J tied Trades Committee. j So far no labor is offering for the city shops, and Unionists are expressing the opinion that an attempt to run the shops with non-union labor will fail, as all the competent men are Unionists, and tlie public are already tired of the kind of meat sold at the depots. (Received March 5, 9.30 a.m.) SYDNEY, March 5. The master butchers state that every shop m the metropolitan area will be opened to-day. It is alleged that many volunteers have offered, including a number of unionist shopmen. They also claim that 5000 farmers and their sons are ready to come from the country if needed. The men deny that any unionists have returned, but a meeting was to be held this forenoon, whereat tho leaders explain the position as far as the offer of the masters to re-engage unionists is concerned.
