FIRE AT EPSOM.
NARROW ESCAPE OF INMATES. (Per Press Association.) AUCKLAND, this day. A grocery store and dwelling opposite the tram barn at Epsom was totally destroyed by fire early this morning. The premises were owned and occupied by Mrs Mills. When the fire broke out all ( the occupants of the house, Mrs Mills, five children, and a girl, were asleep. Mrs Mills awakened to find the house on fire, the flames coming from the direction of the kitchen. She promptly awakened the other inmates, and all got , safely' out of the house. The tramway ■ night shift of 20 men turned water on ' the flames. The Newmarket fire brigade arrived later, but they could only save the adjoining building. Nothing was saved" from Mrs Mills' house or grocery store. The house was insured for £42X3, the furniture for £200, and the stock for -3250— a1l m the Phoenix .office. (
