FIRE AT TOLAGA BAY.

- — SUSPECTED CASE OF ARSON. A fire occurred at Tolaga Bay last nijjht, destroying a butcher's shop owned by. Mr T. W. Martin, and the circumstances surrounding the affair points to it being a case of arson. The first attempt was made on Saturday night, when some sacks saturated with kerosene were discovered on fire against the outside of the building. The outbreak was suppressed. Last night, however, it appears that the sacks were placed inside the building, which was reduced to ashes. -Mr' Martin has been m Gisborne, and «5 left>Mr>Hall rh charge,.of.-thc*shop.-An-other man, slept on the premises. He ( was .there on Saturday night, but was not * there yesterday. He has been arrested on a charge" of beinu- implicated m the affair. 'Detective McLeod was despatched to • Tolaga Bay yesterday afternoon. The building was insured for £150, ; the stock for £25, and the machinery, etc., for £15, all m the National office. An inquiry was opened this afternoon before Mr W. E. Holder, J.P.
