Caledonian ground yesterday m perfect . weather, though the ground was "a bit ] , heavy as a. result of recent rain. About , 2000 people were present. Taken on 4 the whole, competition was very keen, but m several' events the fields were 4 small. The Wellington team was very ' . strong, Martin, Hudson, Doyle, and Wilton proving a solid quartette. Martin was not troubled m either of his 1 races, and Hudson put up a fine per- i formance m the three, mile, completing i the distance m 1 2-sth sees less time i . than was occupied by Beatson when < . the latter won the Australian champion- ' ■ ship. Cashman (Wellington) 3. Also started : D. Wilson (Auckland) and W. M. Stewart ( (Otago). Wilson and Stewart retired. Buchan made the pace the whole "way, ( and won comfortably by 10 yards.
