George Birmingham's play "General John Regan" was acted at Westport, County Mayo, ' where- the Rev. J. O. Hannay, who writes under the name of "George Birmingham,'' -was rector' for twenty yearg. Four hundred people attacked the company. They broke the windows of the hotel and stormed the i stage and smashed the scenery. The police dispersed the rioters with batons. The demonstrations were due to the belief that Ballymoy, the scene of the play, waa Westport.
