The Mayoress (Mrs J. R. Kirk) has notifiged the hon. secretary of the Beautifying Society (Mr H. E. Hill) that the lady members of the Scottish Society, who recently gave a most successful concert m the Scottish Hall, are willing to repeat the concert m aid of the Beautifying Society's funds m His Majesty's Theatre. Accepting the kind offer of the ladies, Mr Hill has engaged the theatre for September 16.

The local Health Officer (Dr. Williams) has received instructions to inspect all passengers from Auckland on landing at Qisborne. In order to cause a minimum of inconvenience, this, will not be carried out m the roadstead, but observation will be made at the wharf when passengers are landing from the Tuatea. This, of course, only applies to passengers from Auckland, and does not affect those coming here from Southern ports.

Government valuation if a title' could be obtained, and an adjournment was granted), was mentioned at the Supreme Court yesterday afternoon. Mr Stock said the matter could not come on at this session, as the papers werejnot served on the Registrar m time. The .matter would be dealt with m Wellington.
