CLAIM AGAINST UNIONIST.
Charles Wlfiteby (Mr Dorrington) AA-as proceeded against by the Poverty Bay Freezers' Union (Mr Burnard), at the Magistrate's Court to-day, for the recoA-ery of 12s 6d, being the balance of contributions alleged to be due from August- to November, 1912. | Mr Burnard said the amount sued for Avas small, and the proceedings Avere brought, not merely for the recovery of 12s 6d. but to be fair to the other members who paid up their contributions. William RoAvell, secretary of the union, said defendant received a clearance up to August, 1911. \ He had not, under rule 13, giA'en notice of resignation as a member, and he had been Avorking as a freezer. Under crossexamination witness said they did not purge the roll under rule 13a, for the men's OAvn sakes. The rule stated that the roll must be purged of members Avho are 12 months in arrears. Defendant said he was 12 months- in arrears at March 31, 1912. He paid 13s in August, 1912, and told the delegate he ,did not Avish to remain a member, and had not attended any meetings of the Union since. His Worship reserved judgment. ■_■— ___■_■_■ MB_-MM__
