WELLINGTON, this day. Retailers have devised an exceedingly polished and ingenious way of breakitvj the news of a rise in their oommodity. Their official advertisement' promises a reduction next September, and lias the following explanation, which ought to justify even the most worried and incredulous houseAvife : "Consumers are respectfuly reminded that the above rise is no chance movement, but an important epoch in the history of milk, indicating that the Avinter supply has crossed the great diAide into districts where the country is not beholden to the toAvn and the producer need not produce unless his reward is right."
