ORGAN RECITAL.
Lovers of. good music were given a fine opportunity last night to listen to an organ recital which all who attended would remember with? pleasure.! The organ at Holy Trinity Church has doni a great deal of service, but its period of usefulness is still far from being terminated, as was amply demonstrated by the organist, Mr'E. *N. Sidebottom, at the recital given m the church last Evening-."."- There wafc a' Jorge -attendance'; representative of all 1 congregations, and the music was fully appreciated. The programme, which occupied an hour, comprised selections from different composers, the vocal numbers both being by -Handel.' The- opening 1 , piece was Renaud's "Scherzo Symphoniqiie," which at once impressed hearers with the fine fcone of the organ under 'the condition? now prevailing. The work- of renovation has been very effective, and the new church is admirably suited for carrying the volume of sound. The capable organist had plenty of scope m the i Musical compositions chosen", and whether m. the 'majestic swelling sounds, or the lighter and. the more intricate passages there was a marked richness of tone, and from the most 'distant point 6t the building the music could be heard to the greatest advantage. The . selec- { ttons m addition to that mentioned Were : "Traumerei (Schumann), "Walther's" Preislied" ' (Wagner), "Toccata" (Faulkes), "Offertoire" (Batiste), "Berceuse" • .(Faulkes), "Festival March" (Wareing). The latter made a splendid wind-up to a programme that everyone enjoyed, and many Wishes were expressed that another recital would be given later on. ' Two vocal solos were given, "Honor and \ Arms" send "Arm, Arm, ye Brave." The' vocalist was Mr D. Menaies, "who sang well m 'both instances,' 'brut 1 was especially successful with the latter solo, which contains a stirrintr theme. Th&se present would have liked! 1 to "give vent to warm applause after' every item, but of course that was not allowable. A collection was taken up m aid of the organ fund.
