GREAT NORTHERN STEEPLECHASE * WON BY BERCOLA.

The A.R.C. winter meeting was continued in fine weather. There was a large attendance. Results : — Orakei Hurdles: Pip 1, Victiers 2, Ambergris 3. Scratched : Frontino, St. Lumsden, Rogue, and Dragoon. Poictiers was in front half a mile from the post, when Pip challenged, and went in front, winning easily by four lengths. Royal, Mapuna., Merrimax, Irish Maid, First Wainki, and Manuwera fell. Vic and Admiral Soult stopped. Time 3.30. GREAT NORTHERN STEEPLECHASE. Bercola 1 / Dorando 2 Paritutu 3 All started. Paritutu and Glenmore were responsible for making the pace. Going up the hill the last time Glenmore and Beroola were together, just clear of Paritutu, Hautere, and Dorahdo. At the last fence Bercola and Hautere were together, just in front of Paritutu, Dorando and Glenmore. A great finish resulted in a win for Bercola by four lengths. Time, 8.20. DUNEDIN, this day. The weather is fine for the opening of the Dunedin winter meeting. The going is heavy. Results: — Pacific Hurdles: Ribstone Pippin 1, Red Earl 2, Coy 3. Scratched Master Paul, Simon, Pure Gold. Won without trouble by a neck, Coy just beating Golden Clasp on the post, many lengths away. Time 3.29. Brighton Handicap : Wild Pilgrim 1, Sartorzo 2, Kimona 3. Scratched : Garaid, Dileas, Robert Bell, and Achilla. Won by three and a-half lengths. Time 1.35.

Birthday Handicap : Gapon 1, Daringdale 2, The Cornet 3. All started. Won by a length. Time, 2.17 2-5.
