PATHE PICTURES.

A brilliant collection of films was soresned before a "bumper" house at His Majesty's theatre last night. It was a programme of features, with a, realistic and stirring star number. This was "The Retreat from Moscow," a remarkable reproduction of the fierce disasters which overtook Napoleon and the flower of his army. The picture opens with a life-like scene of the burning of Moscow, and the French army pouring' out of the doomed 1 city, and tha commencement of the retreat which was the beginning of the end of the redoubtable Corsican, woeful march, and -the insistent onslaught of "the Cossacks apouses m qjie's mjnd fresjt interest m the life of the great Napoleon. The film is crammed with incident and events which practically compel' attention. Next m order of merit must be named tho V.itagrajih story, "The Face bf the Voice," m which, both "Maurice Costello and Florence Turner figure, and which might well be boosted' as a picture extraordinary. It is a daipty drama, m which a young millionaire, a. devout worshipper of .the art of 'music, is deceived by a mejpdipus voice whiph captivates him, a pjaiiiex, sifter, is xeally the Eossessor of the voice ■which he believed ad belonged .to a. coquettish maid, and a lonely ttong from a stricken soiil convinces him that it is neither the face nor the voice that he loves, but the woman. The popular Pathe Orchestra score a, triumph m theii* sympathetic rendition of "Ora Pro Nobis," 'and "Ben Bolt" during the screening of 'the picture. An Irish artist with a full moon face and an irrepressible smile serves up a menu of paa-ticuJarly wholesome and palatable humor m "How a I Horse Shoe upset a Family," which

might be styled as a comedy apart. It is not one of the forced burlesques that bore, but a smooth-sliding comedy, typically Irish. There are others m this stirring series, and the collection will j be shown again, to-night.
