NEW MOTOR GARAGE.
With a floor space probably unequalled m New Zealand, a j large new motor garage has been opened by Mr J. H Ormond to provide more adequate accommodation for this branch oi his . already extensive business. I The new garage has a frontage to Bright street and adjoins the carriage building factory facing Peel street. Designed on up-to-date lines, the new ' building should be practically fire-proot, j and a great convenience to Mr Ormond s numerous motorist customers. i The frontage hap been set out m cement finish, and a spacious entrance gives access to the; garage. A large shop has been provided oji the one side, and this is Being utilised for the storage of motor accessories, tyres, jottings, etc., of which a large stock is earned. Adjoining is a ladies' waitingroom, which is being . fitted up for the convenience. aad < comfort of lady customers. The sewerage service is being installed, .and electric light has been fitted throughout. The ground floor is m. concrete, and the dimensions of the garage are 106 ft. by 66ft. Special provision has been made for the washing down of cars, and a special car washer is being provided, together with an electric inflator for the use of customers. The walls and interior generally have been painted m white, giving the whole place a clean appearance. Immediately behind there is to be a| new work shop for repair work, measuring 60ft. by 20ft., single storey, and well lighted, where all the repair work will be carried out. A start is just being made to provide for this addition. Adjacent there is a fire-proof store for benzine, With a capacity for the storage of 350 cases of benzine, built m accordance with the fire-writers' requirements. The upper floor is supported by substantial timber pillars, and provides extensive accommodation for tfre 'storing of carriage building goods. These include large stocks of wheels and 'other timber parts, besides heavy stocks of ' varnish, ironmongery, etc. A powerful lift has been provided for transferring vehicles 4nd goods to the upper floor, which may also oe used as a painting room for motor cars and upholstery, etc. • "■•; The equipment of the garage, Which, is £o be on the most approved plan, and, m keeping with those of other centres, is not yet completed, and Mr Ormond proceeds south m this connection m a few days. The ground floor will be utilised for garage purposes, and the display of cars for which Mr Ormond holds the agency, such as Overland, Hupp, Chalmers, Empire, Halladay, and various other high grade English cars. It is interesting to mention that Mr Ormond's premises - now cover a complete half-acre of ground, and a large portion being m double' storey 1 the actual Boor area runs into about three-quarters of an acre. The new building has been erected by Mr Geo. Smith.
