FOOTBALL.
The weekly meeting of the Poverty Bay Rugby Union was held last night. Present: Messrs A. R. Gatlaml (chairman), S. Coleman, E. L. Maude, J. A. Eaton, and secretary (D. Cowan). % ', It was officially; flnnpuncod that the Old Boys' Club had Withdrawn" from the Thursday competition, owing to their inability to raise ;i team. It was resolved to enter a strong protestto the New Zealand Rugby Union against their' action m selecting Kaipara for the country touring- team, when that player had not been nominated for the position, owing to his having given an assurance to the local selector that he would not •bo able to make the trip. The Kaiti-City Club wrote asking for permission, to play the Tokomaru Football Club at Gisborne on September 7th or- 14lh. — Permission granted. The referee reported a player of the V.JJ.P. junior team for deliberate tripping during the progress of last Saturday's match. — It was resolved to suspend the player for tho remainder of. the season. . ■ ■ Several players were passed for the Gisborne and St. Patrick's Clubs, and also Garrison thirds. Thursday match : St. Patrick's v. Gisborne. Saturday matches ,' (seniors); Kaiti-Citv v. United, No. 1 ground^ Garrison v. V.M.P., No. 2. Juniors: Kaiti-City v. Garrison, No. 1; Old Boys v.. V.M.P., No. 2. Thirds (at Park, 2.05; p.nr.)i Garrisjon v. High School. Owing to .the senior^ and junior competitions being practically a gift to Kniti-City Club, a suggestion was put forth that tho competition be closed anl another one started. Various: schemes were ; formulated, and it was decided to call a meeting of all footballers for next Monday evening, at 7.30, to- discuss same. . •: ■>'• '* :
