MATAWHERO STOCK SALES.

The weekly stock sales were held at the Matawhero yards to-day. Tlie sheep y ardiii gs were again heavy and there was a fair entry of cattle. The attendance was good.

Messrs Williams and Kettle and Co., Murray, Roberts and Co., and the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company yarded 20,000 sheep, 150 head of cattle and 30 pigs. Tliey opened their sale at 10 a.m. with fat sheep. There was a large entry and competition was keen, only one pen passing m. The sales were :— Sheep, 11 ewes lis 6d, 51 ewes 10s 6d, 298 ditto lis, 58 ditto 9s 6d, 18 lambs 10s 9d, 6 ewes 10s, 20 wethers 12s 6d, 23 ewes 10s lOd. Fat Cattle. — In this class there were only eight cows offered, which sold as follows: 6 at £6 ss, 2 at £53 17s 6d. Pigs sold : 10 young store pigs 10s 6d, 5 do. 9s, and 5 do. 10s.

Store sheep. — After the luncheon adjournment Messrs Williams and Kettle, Ltd., New- Zealand Loan and Mecantile Agency Co., Ltd., and Murray, Roberts and Co. offered store sheep. At the beginning of tlie sale competition was keen, but as it. proceeded the sale began to drag and a number of pens were passed m. Bs.9d, 200 do. 8s 7d, 422 do. 9s Id, 88 wethers lis 6d,- 135 mixed ewes 5s Id, 113 old ewes 3s lOd, 19 do. 5s 6d, 55 ewes 6s 6d, 167 2-tooth ewes 10s Bd, 178 small do. 6s 3d, 158 old ewes 3s 9d, 61 small 2-tooth ewes 6s, 24 4-tooth ewes 7s, 19 woolly lambs 4s 6d, 53 lambs 5s Id, 262 5-year-old ewes 8s 2d, 75 woolly lambs 6s 6d, 188 ewes 6s, 100 lambs 7s, 517 ewes 10s, 159 2-tooth ewes 10s 6d, 115 ewes 3s 3d, 154 do. 6s 6d, 63 lambs ss, 60 ewes 5s 3d, 75 2-tooth ewes and wethers 8s 3d, 9 2-tooth wethers 8s 9d, small lambs sold from 3s, cull s ewes from Is 6d to 2s 9d.

Messrs Dalgety and Co. and Messrs Common, Shelton and Co. offered 8000 sheep and 150 head of cattle. Tliey commenced their sale with fat sheep. The pens offered were sold as follows: 160 ewes lis, 44 ewes and wethers 10s, 41 wethers 12s 6d.

Store Sheep : The entry included mostly old ewes, culling operations still going on. The sale was inclined to drag. There was no demand for 2-tooth ewes. Tlie lines sold were : 197 old ewes 3s 7d, 108 ewes 6s 3d, 350 ewes 6s, 421 old ewes 3s 9d, 268 ewes 4s 6d, 606 2-tooth wethers lis, 235 2 and 4-tooth ewes 8s 4d, 170 2-tooth wethers 8s id, 384 ewes 5s 6d, 245 do. 5s 7d, 160 do. 3s 6d, 300 do. 3s Id, 45 2rtooth ewes 7s, 41 5-year-old ewes 6s Id, 61 do. 3s, 101 2-tooth ewes 7s lOd, 108 4, 6, and 8-tooth ewes 9s 7d. Rams.— The entry included a large number of .old rams and potters, which sold from 4s to 10s.' The only other sales were two 2-tooth Romney rams 3igs., sold to p. J. As far as merino wools are concerned there is practically no change to report on opening rates. If anything, all but the best descriptions are a shade weaker, heavy wasty wools selling m buyers' favor. The market continues strong for crossbred wools, which meet with spirited competition. Opening rates are firmly maintained. The auctions had to be postponed on the 22nd and 25th inst on account of the poor light.
