, ♦ COOK COUNTY COUNCIL. At tho nipctiiiff of the Cook County Council to-day the Coun.ty Eriffiiieor (Mr deCi. Fraser) reported as follows: — Contract 372— metal repairs Lavenhum road: vutisfactorily oompletefl ; 215i yards spread. Contract 372 — formation and nietalling Dnrwin road (north end): Work will be started on this section at once. Contract 371— Kaiaua road, Tolaga: Contract let on 17th inst. Contract 369— metalling on Hamon's road, Whataupoko: Soine difflcultv is being experienced in obtaining gravel, * the contractor is writing the Council on the matter. Contract 368— formation Riverside road, near Mr Holden's homestead: Work lot, and a start made with the woTk. . Contract 367— metalling Willows settlement: This contract is in' a similar position to No. 369. ■' Contract 307— metalling Waimata road: Completed, some 68 chains of road having been metalled. Contract 365— metal depots: Work in hand. Contract 305 — metalling Quarry road, Ngatapa: 40 chains completed. Contract 360— metalling Blue cutting, Turau Valley road: This work is well in hand, the stone mostly carted out, and being knapped and the work will be completed in a fortnight's time. Contract 359^-metalling Tolaga to Wigan: Progressing satisfactorily. Contract 356 — nietalling Kopua hill: Work in hand. Contract 353 — erection of bridge Taruheru: Timber ordered. I have also had 18 chains of road formed towards the site afc the northern end, and the land has been surveyed for the southern approach. Contract 351 — road formation Hangaroa-Wai-karemoana: This work is still delayed by the Public Works Department. Contract 347— metal repairs Bushmere: In hand. Contract 343 — meftilling branch roads Whataupoko: slary ; street, Kirktown, completed; Gordon street and Von Pein's road, in hand. Contract 341 — metalling Paramata road, Tolaga: Practically no work has been done on this contract. I haye written to the contractor on the matter, but --with no satisfactory result. . ... ■ Contract 339— repairs Puatac Hill: This contract is in the same position as the previous one, no work having been put. in hand. " '" Contract 338 — formation and metallidg Torrie's and Goldie's roads: Satisfactory pr6gress is being made.The road machines' have been employed as follows: Arikihi- Waimata roads, Gisborne Hangaroa road, Ngatapa and Makauri roads. Contract 336 — erection of bridge HangaroaTahora road: The material has been worked up and carted to the site 1 preparatory to erection. ' N Contract 331— mettilling Puatae deviation: Work progressing satisfactorily, over 200 yards delivered and 400 to 500 yards knapped. Contract 319— metalling Kaiti roads: Good progress is being made, all available stone ! having been carted out. as delivered by the Borough Council. Darwin, Owen, and de Lautour roads practically complete, and footpaths formed and gravelled, also branch roads in hand. As regards the metalled roads, considerable repairs will be required on the section from Matawhero to the town boundary. I hope, however, later to get. n supply of stone delivered by the Borough at the Matawhero siding, which with. a supply of Patutahi metal at the cemetery depots will enable this road to' be" put in better order. Sherratt I have been over the Ngatapa S.S. roads with the Chairman and Secretary of Ngatapa Setters' Association, and with the object of estimating the cost of metalling corta"in sections^ of roaSs on* this block; so far I hove not had time, however, to complete . the estimate. On the Pakowhai-Muriwni "road I have la'id off and levelled .from Witters' gate to junction of formed road past . Black's homestead, and plans for same are now in hand. On the Arai-Mangapoiki road; the siding' at Dennis' cutting is. being widened and the bank being protected; also the small bridges at Jfangapoiki are being, erected, and the big slips near Porter's metalled.
