NEW ZEALAND MEAT AT HOME.
ARRANGEMENTS FOR BETTER HANDLING. (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day., With a view of improving the conditions tinder which New Zealand frozen' meat is handled, prior to and during distribution, all the North Island freezing companies which have no offices in London formed themselves some time ago into an association, and engaged^ the services of Dr. W. V. Robinson, who has for some years past been inspecting, a large proportion of the New Zealand meat, whilo acting as the underwriters' representative since the early part of last year. Dr. Robinson has been inquiring, not only in respect to the existing conditions of handling the meat, but also as to the possibilities of better provision for the future, and especially has his attention been directed to the possibilities of providing better facilities for discharge and arrival at the port of London. The time for such inquiries was particularly suitable, in view of the extension and improvements which have been decided on by the Port of London Authority. Dr. Robinson has been in close touch with the Port authorities, and before, leaving - Home had secured a definite ■ promise to- meet' the necessities of the New Zealand frozen meat trade, of course on being definitely assured that, such provision, would be used to an . extent sufficient to return a reasonable revenue On the expenditure. It was arranged with Dr. Robinson that during the^-Slack season at Home he should pay a visi£ to NewZealand to thoroughly familiarise himself with the methods and practices at this end, and in pursuance of that arrangement he arrived in New. Zealand on Ist December last, and has since devoted his time to the intended purpose. In company with Mr W. G. Foster, chairman of the associated companies, he has visited all the freezing companies' worlds in the North Island, and he has also visited the Southern works, thereby acquiring a mass of information on the subject, which will be "of the greatest assistance to him in arranging for the reception of the' produce at the other end. Dr. Robinson will be returning to England shortly, but prior to his departure he Avill meet a conference of all the North Island companies, which has been called for the 24th inst. at Wellington.
