PRIMITIVE METHODIST CONFERENCE.
(Per JPreaa Association.) CHRISTCHUfiOH, last night. The business of the Primitive Methodist Conference concluded to-day. Recommendations from the public question committee wfere adopted covering resolutions protesting against statements by Roman Catholic speakers adversely criticising the leaders of reformation, alsp against the Ne Temere Decree and the action of the Catholic Church in interfering in public matters, with special reference to marching of the Government troops through the streets of Wellington ,in celebration of the Roman Catholic anniversary. Satisfaction was expressed .at the licensing poll figures. The. conference de^ clared there was opposition against sectarian teaching in State schools, and istructed the committee to report on 1.. • question of Bible reading in schools. It .vas resolved that an expression of alarm at the growth of gambling should be panned. It was decided to urge the Minister 1 of Defence not to authorise military training on Sunday, and to give .ample opportunity for holding religious services in camps, and appoint Primitive Methodist chaplains. It was i>l*o agreed to co-operate with other ! 1 . 'estant churches in the Lord's Dayj scr.' ec. The Alliance Conference was regained as one of the most important held in New Zealand, the question of union with the Methodist churches dominating tho proceedings.
